Summary of Features and Articles
September 2010
Editorial: Virtual Reality, by Irving E. Rockwood. Choice's editor and publisher editor considers how new knowledge gives birth to new terminology, and the consequent need to distinguish between legitimate coinage and ephemeral dreck.
The Rise of Digital Game Studies, by Neal Baker, librarian at Earlham College. He may be contacted at bakerne@earlham.edu. Baker treats a field that is so new it lacks a stable name: other titles in use include"video game studies," "computer game studies," and "ludology." Furthermore, various scholars define the subject differently, for instance, as arcade games, or console games, or online games. Like film studies, the field is interdisciplinary, and so attracts scholars from many fields. Baker evaluates introductory works, overview collections, and Web resources.
New & Forthcoming Association & Organization Publishing, 2010–2011. The second installment of this feature in Choice's popular Forthcoming Series focuses on the publishing programs of professional societies and associations and research institutions.
